A story of “acquired patriotism.” Gordon Guthrie To those who continue to question the rights of naturalized citizens to run for Congress, I invite you to consider my perspective, for whatever it may be worth. From a Green Card Holder, U.S. Navy Sailor, to a US Citizen Arriving in the United States as a lawful permanent resident marked more than just a change in geography—it was the beginning of a profound transformation in identity, purpose, and belonging. From the moment I set foot on American soil, I felt a deep desire to contribute to the country that had opened its doors to me and offered opportunities I could scarcely imagine elsewhere. Even before completing my Navy career, I fulfilled the five-year residency requirement and applied for U.S. citizenship. On Constitution Day—September 17th, during the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution, also celebrated as Citizenship Day —I made a life-defining decision. This was not a burea...
What's Next for the Pacific Northwest? El Niño Conditions El Niño conditions are present in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, and are expected to persist through the winter of 2015-16. The magnitude of sea-surface temperature (SST) anomalies has stayed consistent over the last few weeks, and the weekly SST departures from normal are near 3.0 degrees Celsius in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean. The " El Niño Advisory " that was released on March 5 is still in effect, and the El Niño is now exceeding the strength of the strongest El Niño on record, 1997-98, in some measurements. Model consensus is extremely high that the El Niño will persist through the winter, with chances above 95%, and the current forecast indicates that it will remain a "strong" El Niño event. Chances that the El Niño will persist through the spring have increased to about 85%. The 3-month seasonal forecasts from the Climate Prediction Center are representing the tendency for...
The owner of Water Conservation Technology International, Dan Duke has given the industry an amazing tool that gets a lot of “press” these days on water conservation. I firmly believe that reducing the total plant discharge from their cooling towers system from a range of 12-40% to less than 2% (mostly less than 1%) does warrant the good press and yes it is what seems to be driving a lot of customers to the WCTI process. However, I like to believe that in areas where: Scale was the real problem, WCTI chemistry has removed that obstacle by controlling hardness and all that it entails. Corrosion was the problem, that problem has been eliminated or substantially reduced from that of index chemistry programs by using what mother nature already has given us with silica based chemistry. Bio-fouling was a problem, there is now no more bio-film or water borne deposits on WCTI Chemistry. So for me, I like to think of it as also being about the RESULTS!. I...
